Casual Maternity Style

Managing to wear non maternity clothes that fit during pregnancy is a hard task, but it's possible! You don't have to sacrifice style for comfort either. To give you some ideas, here are my tips.

- Size Up. If you like a certain piece of clothing, buy a size (or two) larger than your pre-pregnancy size. It's easier to take it to the tailor later and have it taken in, then wear it for only a few weeks. That's exactly what I'm planning on doing with this eyelet dress.

- Jersey Dresses. Stretchy and comfy jersey fabric is easily the best things that has ever happened to my bump. I buy my normal size and have it stretch over the belly, so later I will have something to wear as well.

- Empire Waist and Boxy Fit. I knot that empire waist is not in style right now, but there are some non maternity dresses and tops that will fit the description. Also, a lot of tops right now have a very boxy and relaxed fit. I was able to find about 5-6 tops at TJMaxx the other day, that weren't maternity but fit me well (of course I couldn't buy all of them so I had to pick one).

Whenever I'm trying to pick a dress from a store, it seems like there are more than a few options and I want them all. But when I can have any dress I can't seem to make up my mind. It was really hard to pick just one dress from the Garnet Hill collection of dresses! I wasn't sure if I wanted a maxi or could still fit into a short jersey dress. This print is so full of summer and will be perfect for after I have my baby girl (it's definitely breastfeeding friendly). Well hello there! Look who got dressed up again. ha! I'm in love with this stretchy jersey dress that I found in TJMaxx recently. I have three weddings to go to and bridal shower before my due date and I have lost all hope at finding something pretty to wear. Then, I found this dress! It literally makes me feel like a million bucks and that's a great thing when you are 33 weeks pregnant. Books We Are Reading Right Now

Jonathan LOVES to read. He reads first things in the morning, then all throughout the day, while I'm doing chores and before bed time. We don't have a bed time routine with book reading but we sure do enough of it during the day. Sometimes I wonder why it's so quiet in the house as he sits on the couch and reads a book all by himself. It makes my heart melt and I'm so glad he is developing this habit so early on. Here are a few of our favorite right now and if you are looking for cheaper prices, Amazon is the best with delivery time (if you have Prime) and price point.

Good Night Moon
This book has elements of unexpected and still carries a lot of meaning. Also, it's a classic. Jonathan loves reading about the moon and talks how characters do the same nightly ritual as he does before going to sleep. It's super adorable.

Thomas (Magnetic Book)
Let's just say Jonathan is obsessed with all things trains (especially Thomas). I bought this book before leaving for our trip down south and he loved playing with it on the way back. Unfortunately the magnets get lost easily so beware.

Blame It On The Big Blue Panda
He knows exactly what's going on in this book and it's a book with awesome moral. He asks me to read it over and over again. It has large drawings and big enough to entertain him for a while.

Llama Llama Red Pajama
This has to be my favorite children's book in English (I love my old Russian favorites more). It has a cute rhyme and very easy to read. Jonathan requests it a lot and helps me long as he scolds the crying little baby llama. It's hilarious!

Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes
This book is so sweet! I love reading and tickling him, plus it's great for educating kids about how different our world is. Every time I read it I'm ready to tear up because it's just so heart warming and adorable.

The Little Engine That Could
This is Jonathan's favorite book. He brings it over to bed first thing in the morning and we read it together. Then he asks to read it again after breakfast, and after nap, and after dinner. I practically have it memorized and sometimes get annoyed by how many times he wants to read it. But I love that he is developing a love for books so early on and have to remind myself that it's a million times better than TV.

5 Ways To Help a New Mom {Motherhood}



After having Jonathan, I understood first hand what it means to be a first time mom. I struggled with no sleep, lack of personal time, feeling overwhelmed and constantly tired. I also, became more understanding of what other mothers of newborns go through. As a matter of fact, I became aware of how much we don't do to help mothers of newborns.
It's sad but our culture as a whole does not support and help new mothers at all. For example, by Russian tradition, the entire family gathers and comes over to the newborn's house, usually for dinner. They bring gifts but expect to be fed first class food and  leave without offering clean up (or any other help). I've been there myself - I visited other people's homes when the new mother just came home from the hospital with a simple outfit in tow. I didn't understand how exhausting it is to entertain when you have a newborn on hands (and possibly a few older siblings). From now on, here are the rules I practice.

1. Bring Food (not flowers). 
When visiting a new mother with her baby, think about what she might need at that point. She doesn't need another thing to worry about, like flowers but she will definitely appreciate food she didn't have to make. Think nutritious and healthy, something she can eat while breastfeeding and can easily reheat later. Of course, if you want to splurge on a restaurant quality gourmet meal, by all means. But even bringing a platter of pre-cut fresh fruit will brighten her day. Making things yourself will put you on her 'awesome friend' list because it shows that you really care. 


2. Ask When You Can Visit. 
Don't just barge in whenever you feel like it or have time. Even at the hospital, there are visiting hours (thank God) to ensure that mother will get the necessary rest she needs. Giving birth and caring for a newborn is exhausting enough, so don't be a nuisance. If the new mother doesn't want to offend you by saying that she doesn't want to see anyone, just tell her straight up that you wouldn't be upset in either case. It's comforting to know we have those people in our lives who will understand. 


3. Offer Help (and do it)
Instead of waiting to be served and sitting around, offer to help the new mom. She may be reluctant to say 'yes' but if you are serious, she may take you up on it. Wash the dishes, take out the garbage or run an errand. It doesn't have to be a whole day thing but every little bit helps, You can offer her to watch the baby while she takes a nap (which I'm sure she desperately needs). 



4. Drop Off Goodies
Some moms are not up for seeing people for a while but you still want to help. She may not want you to come inside her house (it's a disaster let's be honest) but she would appreciate a box of fresh bagels and fruit first thing in the morning. Drop it off at the front door and tell her to go get it, while you sneak out unnoticed. She will be eternally grateful and will not forget the act of kindness. 


5. Offer to Babysit Older Siblings
If it is a second or third (or forth) child, chances are she is as tired as ever. Now there are multiple mouths to feed and a new baby who requires all her attention. Offer to take the older child(ren) for a day so she can relax and bond with the the newborn. Make sure to ask her if she has any rules about places you can take the oldest to and food preferences. You can have fun and spoil them but she doesn't want sugar high maniac(s) to return home. 


Some of these acts are more involved and depend on how much you know the family. But anyone can pick up some food and drop it off without knocking. Life as a new mom is quite difficult. that's why we all need to help each other to get through the adjustment time. The world will be brighter and life more pleasant when we spread more kindness around.

Father's Day Gift Guide 2015

Hello there! It seems like time is passing me by as we are already in month of June. The next holiday that's around the corner is Father's Day. Although it seems like you have time to think about a gift for the Father(s) in your life, time doesn't stand still. Here I found some of the coolest gifts around and made them easy to shop in one location. Everything from trendy ties for the father who likes to dress well to a culinary connoisseur and the builder (a personalized hammer anyone?), it's all here. I love the vintage clock that's also an alarm because my husband definitely needs one on his side of the bed, as well as some cool grilling tools and spices to go with his new grill. Also, a new quality leather watch will put a smile on any dad's face. I think a ROKU subscription will dub you the 'favorite kid' and that's not a bad idea. I hope you have fun shopping for dad although it's not so easy most of the time.

Around the first week of June last year, I posted these outfits on my blog. I can still tell you what was going on when I took the pictures, where they were taken and who I was doing after the photoshoots. It's funny how many memories are connected to the clothes we wear. For example, my wedding dress holds a lot of memories and is very important to me as it was a gift from my future husband. He wanted me to have the dress of my dreams (not sparing any expense), therefore I will keep it for the rest of my life. On the other hand, this eShakti striped dress wasn't such a great fit and I had to pass it on to my cousin. 
I'm also thinking about the things I wanted to accomplish in a year, and how far I have come. Although I'm not one of the top earning bloggers and very far from even thinking about making living out of this hobby, I like doing it. I love seeing how my style has evolved over years and how much my tastes have changed. Having a few more collaboration and sponsorship opportunities helps as well .
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to those who have been following me, supporting me and encouraging me along the way. I could not have done it without the help of my awesome husband, photographer sister and all those who visit/comment and share about my blog.

What To Wear During Your Second Trimester

Now that I'm in third trimester, looking back at second trimester bump I have to say is my favorite. That's the time when you popped but haven't turned into a whale yet, can still tie your shoes and don't have heartburn after every meal. To look put together and stylish, I keep couple of tricks up my sleeve and want to share them with you

1. Shift Dress is your best friend. You know those shapeless dresses that only look good on hangers or models? Well, now they can become your best friend. Since they don't have a defined waist, they are perfect with a belt and some heels. Bonus: you can wear them after giving birth!

2. Maternity Jeans/Shorts are a life saver. No need to try to keep that button from popping out, or struggling to keep the belly band up every time you sit down. I love every single pair of maternity jeans  and shorts I owe and wouldn't trade them for the world.

3. Popover is new kind of classic. Do you like the look of a polished dressy shirt? Consider getting a popover in the same color/print. Since there are no buttons lover than the chest area, they won't be opening at the most inconvenient time. Plus, they will be perfect for breastfeeding when the baby arrives. It's a win win in my book!

4. Stretchy Fabrics are the best. When selecting a dress or a top, go for the scuba fabric as it will grow with your bump and accommodate your belly at every stage.

5. Accessorize while you can. Belts, handbags and shoes are the best way to play up the same dress/outfit. Add bracelets and necklaces while you still can and tiny little hands aren't trying to rip them off you.

Welcome to June people! Can you believe it? We are in the 6th month, half way through the year already. I feel like time is slipping through my fingers and right now it's busier than ever. At 32 weeks pregnant, I have to admit I'm not ready for this baby to arrive just yet. In fact, I don't have a single pink thing. Gasp. Starting with blogging, working, my side business, and all the personal engagements I have a packed schedule. Between now and my due date we have three weddings to go to and that's some busy social life we  have. I'm not complaining but sometimes I feel like life is passing me by too fast. Do you ever get that feeling?
